Nigerian salad is not complete without salad cream and not just any salad cream, it's the Heinz brand! Fusili pasta is mostly used for Nigerian Salad, I opted for Farfalle for aesthetic reasons; it's pretty and looks more appealing compared with Fusili. Some Nigerian Salad recipes call for Tuna, Sardines or Corned Beef. I'm not a fan of meats or fish in Pasta.
Steps to make Nigerian salad:
- shred the carrots and cabbage. put them together in a bowl and add four cubes of sugar depending on your likeness for sweets, add hot water and stir. drain the water after 8 minutes. and set aside
- cut the different peppers into cubes and the cucumber also separately and set aside
- cut the onions into rings and put them in cold water. then put it in the fridge for 10 mins
- cut the tomatoes into rings as well
- pat dry the onions. remember that all ingredients must be set aside in separate bowls.
- then add these ingredients together layer after layer. decorating it to your likeness.
- dish onto plate and add desired amount of salad cream
- and enjoy your meal. voilà!
Some Nigerian Salad recipes call for Tuna, Sardines or Corned Beef. I'm not a fan of meats or fish in Pasta. Feel free to include any of those if you wish. Nigerian vegetable salad is specifically dressed in Heinz® salad cream, which is British, and different from mayonnaise. It is tangier, richer and sweeter than mayonnaise.
